Basic usage
Naturkompass is a free platform. Use of the plant and animal species database, the identification assistant and garden planning is possible without registration.
A free user account is required for the personal garden diary, saved species lists and community functions.
The platform may only be used for legal, private and non-profit purposes. Automated mass queries, scraping or commercial reuse of the data without express permission are not permitted.
Citizen Science & garden observations
Naturkompass gives you the opportunity to document garden observations — animal and plant sightings, flowering times, insect activity and other ecological events. These data are initially only visible to you.
Voluntary consent for scientific data use
You can optionally consent to your fully anonymised observation data being provided for scientific purposes as part of citizen science projects.
- Consent is voluntary — the platform is fully usable without consent
- Data shared: species name, date, rough region (postcode area)
- Never shared: name, email, exact address
- Data licence: CC BY 4.0 with attribution "Naturkompass / Gartenexpedition"
Revocation: Consent can be revoked at any time in the account settings or by email to hallo@gartenexpedition.de. Data already shared anonymously cannot be recalled due to the anonymisation. hallo@gartenexpedition.de
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (consent).
Content & usage rights
All editorial content, texts and AI-generated species descriptions on Naturkompass are protected by copyright. Private, non-commercial use is permitted as long as Naturkompass is cited as the source.
The platform uses scientific data from public sources (GBIF, FloraWeb, EIVE, etc.) as well as public domain image sources. Source references are fully documented on the page Data sources .

Naturkompass provides information to the best of its knowledge and belief, but assumes no liability for the completeness, accuracy or topicality of the content. Especially regarding poisonous plant information and medical advice: always consult professional staff in case of doubt.
Practical gardening recommendations are of a general nature and do not replace individual professional advice.
