Bolitophagus reticulatus is a tenebrionid beetle with a mean body length of 6.5 mm and a body mass of approximately 26 mg. The cuticle is notably light in colour (colour lightness 98.04) and the body is entirely glabrous. Elytra length is about 3.8 mm, while the pronotum measures 1.5 mm in length and 2.5 mm in width. The head is 1.9 mm long and 1.2 mm wide, with eyes 0.5 mm in length. Wing morphology includes a wing length of 7.4 mm, a wing area of 17.7 mm², a wing load of 1.48 and a wing aspect ratio of 2.55. Legs are slender, with the hind femur length of 1.9 mm and hind tibia 1.6 mm. Antennae are 1.7 mm long. Sexual dimorphism is absent. The species has been recorded in Great Britain, though its precise residence status remains indeterminate.
