Grow in full sun, in soil that is moderately moist and of average fertility, with a neutral to alkaline pH. This plant thrives without supplemental feeding.
Bunias orientalis is a member of the Brassicaceae family. It is a non-woody, herbaceous plant with an erect growth form and broad leaves. Mature plants reach an average height of about 59 centimetres, with individual leaf blades covering roughly 46 square centimetres. The species produces flowers from May through August. Its known range includes central, southwestern, southeastern and eastern Europe. In Great Britain it is introduced and well established, regarded as a neophyte. Typical habitats include arable weed communities and, less frequently, tall herb fringes. The plant shows a strong preference for full sun, moderately moist, calcareous to alkaline soils of moderate nutrient status, and it does not tolerate saline conditions. It is classified as having low tolerance of disturbance. The national conservation status has not been assessed.
