It occupies sunny, moist environments with neutral to weakly acidic reaction and is characteristic of nutrient-poor soils, showing only low tolerance of physical disturbance. The tiny diaspores weigh about 0.1 mg, and mean leaf area is 1578 mm². The species is associated with moderately warm temperature regimes.
