Carex paniculata is a sedge native in Great Britain. It forms dense tufts of broad green leaves and reaches an average height of 0.66 m. The flower spikes appear in May and June. Full sun and consistently moist, moderately fertile soil are required; the plant has no tolerance of saline conditions. Diaspore mass is about 0.84 mg, leaf area approximately 3774 mm², and mycorrhizal associations are variable. The species is classified as of least concern on the UK Red List and is associated with low disturbance tolerance and a strong moisture demand (Ellenberg moisture value 9).
