Cynoglossum officinale is a terrestrial, non-woody herbaceous plant native in Great Britain. It reaches a typical height of around 0.47 metres and bears broad leaves with an average leaf area of approximately 2,227 mm². The flowers appear between May and July. The plant strongly favours full sun, dry moisture conditions and nutrient-rich, calcareous to basic soils; it tolerates only low levels of disturbance and moderately warm temperatures. Its diaspores weigh around 29 mg on average.
