Salvia officinalis is an introduced and established subshrub in Great Britain, belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Its growth form is a subshrub with broad leaves, and the foliage is evergreen. The plant favours full sun and dry, calcareous to basic, nutrient-poor conditions; it shows low disturbance tolerance. Flowering occurs between May and July. The height ranges from approximately 0.4 to 0.5 metres, with leaf area around 174 mm² and a diaspore mass of about 3 mg. Mycorrhizal association is of the arbuscular mycorrhizal type. No evidence of toxicity is recorded, making it generally safe around children.
