The species favours sunny locations and grows on dry to moderately moist soils of normal nutrient status. In Great Britain it is recorded as an introduced species that has become established in the wild (Plant Atlas 2020). Habitats occupied show low disturbance and no tolerance of salinity. The plant is a member of the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae).
