Grow in full sun in fresh, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soil. A neutral to slightly acid pH is preferred. This plant is best suited to sites with low disturbance, such as fertile meadow plantings or a woodland edge.
Galeopsis speciosa is an archaeophyte in Great Britain, established since before 1500. It is a non-woody, broad-leaved herbaceous plant typically reaching around 58 cm in height. The plant favours sunny positions on fresh, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils with a neutral to slightly acid reaction, and is found in fertile meadows, intensive grassland, alpine swards and forest edges. It tolerates only low levels of disturbance. Flowers are produced from May to September. The seeds are small, with a mean diaspore mass of about 4 mg, and the leaf area averages 3066 mm². It is not threatened (Red List status *).
