As a native species, it contributes to the structural diversity of grassland and woodland-edge habitats. Its arbuscular mycorrhizal associations can aid nutrient cycling and soil stabilisation.
An evergreen perennial. Foliage remains present year-round. New shoots emerge in spring and flowering takes place in June and July.

Grow in partial shade in moisture-retentive but well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. It is suited to wildflower meadows, woodland-edge plantings or naturalistic borders. Once established it needs little attention; allow it to self-seed for discreet natural spread.
Galium boreale is a non-woody, broad-leaved perennial reaching an average height of about 39 cm. Its leaves are evergreen and persist through the year. Small white flowers are produced from June to July. The species is native in Great Britain and typically grows in moderately lean, moist meadows and along woodland edges on base-rich, calcareous soils. It favours partial shade and moderately warm conditions. The plant forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations and its tiny seeds weigh on average 0.7 mg.
