It prefers full sun, warm conditions, and moderately moist, calcareous to basic soils of medium fertility. Mycorrhizal associations are of the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) type. Flowering takes place from May to July. The average leaf area is approximately 526 mm² and the diaspore (seed) mass averages 2.05 mg. This species is introduced in Great Britain and is established.
