Hippophae rhamnoides is a native woody shrub or small tree in Great Britain. It requires full sun and grows on nutrient-poor, alkaline to basic soils. This deciduous, broad-leaved plant forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations and sheds its leaves in autumn. Flowering occurs from March through May. The species is slightly salt tolerant and favours sites with low disturbance.
