Grow in semi-shade, in ordinary garden soil that remains moderately moist.
Laburnum anagyroides is a deciduous broadleaved tree that typically reaches around 6.5 m in height, with leaf blades averaging 868 mm². Its flowers appear from April to June. The species is associated with semi-shaded conditions (Ellenberg light value 6) and warm sites (temperature value 7), and it tolerates disturbance poorly (severity 0.69). Soil moisture is moderately fresh (Ellenberg value 4), with a tendency for calcareous or basic reaction (value 8). The seeds are relatively heavy, with a mean diaspore mass of 30 mg. Mycorrhizal associations are of the arbuscular type. In Great Britain it is an established introduction (neophyte).
