Lathyrus tuberosus is a climbing, non-woody herb in the pea family (Fabaceae). It bears broad leaves and produces fragrant, pink-purple flowers from May to July. The plant reaches about 0.6 metres in height and its seeds weigh around 30 milligrams. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Subterranean stolons develop ovoid tubers. In Great Britain it is introduced and established, found in sunny, moderately moist, calcareous soils that experience low disturbance.
