Mespilus germanica is a woody, terrestrial shrub growing up to about 3.8 metres tall. It has broad, deciduous leaves and a shrubby growth form. The plant forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. In Great Britain it is classed as an archaeophyte, having been introduced before 1500 and subsequently becoming established.
