Nymphaea alba is a native aquatic herbaceous perennial in the water-lily family Nymphaeaceae. It develops broad, floating leaves that reach an area of about 42,000 mm², and the plant typically grows to around 0.5 metres in height. The flowers appear from June to August. The species prefers full sun, still or slow-moving water, and moderately fertile, neutral to slightly acidic conditions. It is native in Great Britain, occurring naturally in ponds, lakes and slow-flowing rivers.
