Potentilla sterilis is a herbaceous, non-woody plant with broad leaves, native in Great Britain. It typically reaches around 8 centimetres in height and bears flowers in April and May. In the wild it occupies semi‑shaded sites with fresh, moderately moist, neutral to slightly acid soils of average fertility, and it tolerates a low level of disturbance. The leaf area averages 518 square millimetres, and the minute diaspores weigh around 0.52 milligrams.
