Somateria spectabilis is a waterfowl in the family Anatidae. It is recorded from Great Britain, though its residency status remains uncertain. Adults typically weigh around 1650 grams and have a wingspan of about 26.6 centimetres. The maximum recorded lifespan is roughly 19 years. Breeding birds produce a single clutch of five eggs, incubated for approximately 23 days. Chicks fledge after about 30 days. Invertebrates dominate the diet, accounting for 80 per cent of intake, with seeds and other plant material making up the remainder.
