Plant in a shaded position with fresh, moderately moist, neutral to slightly acid soil of medium fertility. This tree is sensitive to disturbance and does best in a sheltered, stable site.
A large, woody, evergreen tree of the pine family (Pinaceae), Abies alba typically grows to around 42 metres tall. The needle-like leaves are persistent, and the crown tolerates shaded conditions. It thrives on fresh, moderately moist soils that are neutral to slightly acid and of medium fertility, in moderately warm situations. The tree is adapted to terrestrial habitats and produces relatively heavy diaspores (approximately 62 mg). Flowering occurs from May to June. The species is sensitive to disturbance, preferring stable sites. In Great Britain it is an introduced and established species, not native.
