The flowers supply a modest amount of nectar and pollen for pollinating insects. The presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal associations points to a role in below-ground nutrient cycling.
Flowering extends from May to July.

Choose a sunny position.
Maintain moderately moist, well-drained soil.
Grow in nutrient-poor conditions.
Avoid soil disturbance once established.
This broad-leaved, non-woody plant reaches a height of about 8 cm. It is a species of full sun and fresh, moderately moist soils that are neutral to slightly acid and nutrient-poor. The plant associates with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and prefers habitats experiencing low disturbance. Its small blooms offer nectar and pollen as a minor food source for flower-visiting insects from late spring into mid-summer.
