Ailanthus altissima is a deciduous broad-leaved tree that can reach roughly 17 metres in height. It thrives in full sun and fresh, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils, tolerating neutral to weakly acidic pH. Flowering takes place in June and July. It is introduced and well established in Great Britain, where it is treated as invasive, and it is designated an invasive alien species of European Union concern. The tree shows low tolerance of disturbance and is not salt-tolerant.
