This herbaceous plant reaches around 21 cm in height and bears broad leaves. It is non-woody, and its diaspores weigh about 0.6 mg. The flowering period extends from May to October. Typical habitats are sunny, moderately moist, and of medium fertility; the species tolerates only low levels of disturbance. In Great Britain it is recorded as an archaeophyte, having been introduced in antiquity and since become established.
