Requires a calcareous, fertile soil and is intolerant of frequent disturbance.
Anthriscus sylvestris is a herbaceous, non-woody, broad-leaved plant native in Great Britain. It reaches a height of around 0.84 metres and produces its umbels of small white flowers over a long season from March to September. The species is a strong calcicole, favouring calcareous, nutrient-rich soils with a low tolerance of disturbance. Its arbuscular mycorrhizal associations help it access nutrients in fertile ground. Both nectar and pollen are rated at the maximum value, making it an excellent resource for a wide range of insects throughout its flowering period.
