Aronia melanocarpa is a woody, deciduous shrub belonging to the rose family. It grows as a broad-leaved, terrestrial shrub and reaches a height of about 1.34 metres. The broad leaves average around 1160 mm² in area and are shed in autumn. Flowering occurs from May to July. Its diaspores (seeds) are very small, weighing roughly 1.8 mg. In Great Britain it is an introduced species that is now established.
