Grow in full sun in permanently wet or submerged soil, such as shallow pond margins or bog gardens. The plant is suited to neutral to slightly acidic water with moderate nutrient levels.
Callitriche brutia is a small, aquatic, evergreen herbaceous plant that is native in Great Britain. It typically reaches a height of 0.1 m. The species has broad leaves and non-woody stems, and is entirely adapted to life in water. It occurs in permanently wet or submerged, sunny habitats, such as shallow pool margins, slow-moving streams and boggy ground. The plant requires full sun and very high moisture; it grows in neutral to slightly acidic conditions with moderate nutrient availability, does not tolerate saline conditions and favours environments with low disturbance. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) associations. It is a warmth-loving species with evergreen foliage that persists through the winter. Flowering takes place from April to October.
