Prefers a position in full sun with moderately moist, well-drained soil. A neutral to alkaline pH is ideal. It has moderate nutrient requirements and benefits from arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.
Consolida ajacis is a herbaceous, non-woody plant with broad leaves. It typically reaches a height of around 0.6 metres. Originating from southern Europe and northern Africa, it was introduced to Great Britain as an ornamental and has become established here. The species grows in full sun and favours moderately moist, calcareous soils with moderate nutrient levels. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Its small diaspores weigh approximately 2.3 milligrams.
