Hieracium umbellatum is a herbaceous, non-woody perennial with broad leaves, each averaging around 737 mm² in area. It typically reaches a height of 0.46 metres. The species is native in Great Britain, where it favours partial shade and moderately moist, acidic soils of moderate fertility in relatively warm conditions. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Flower heads are produced in August and September, followed by small seeds with a diaspore mass of about 0.39 mg.
