Lamium galeobdolon is a herbaceous perennial growing to about 45 cm in height. It bears broad leaves and produces flowers from May to June. The species prefers shade and fresh, moderately moist, neutral to alkaline soils of average fertility. Its typical habitat is beech and mixed deciduous woodland on calcareous substrates. The plant has a moderately warm temperature affinity and forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Although native in Great Britain, it can exhibit invasive behaviour.
