Legousia speculum-veneris is a non-woody, broad-leaved herb in the bellflower family (Campanulaceae). It reaches around 18 cm in height. In Great Britain it is an introduced species that has become established, favouring sunny, warm sites with low disturbance, on fresh, moderately moist, calcareous soils of average fertility. The plant is recorded from Europe, southwestern Europe, southeastern Europe and Africa. Flowers open from June to July.
