It belongs to the marsh fern family (Thelypteridaceae) and grows as a terrestrial plant, typically reaching a height of about 0.76 metres. The fronds are broad, with an individual leaf area of roughly 280 square centimetres. Reproductive structures develop in summer, and spores ripen from July to August.
