Provide a sunny position with well-drained, dry soil. The grass copes with normal to moderately fertile ground and a calcareous or basic pH.
Panicum capillare is a grass that grows to around 40 cm. The leaves are broad and the plant is non-woody, remaining terrestrial. Flowering occurs from June to September. In Great Britain it is an introduced and established species. It originates from Africa, Northern and Southern America, and the southeastern United States. The grass prefers full sun and dry conditions on normal soils, with a marked affinity for calcareous or basic substrates. It is a moderate feeder and tolerates only low levels of disturbance.
