Prunella grandiflora is a non-woody, terrestrial herbaceous plant, bearing broad leaves and reaching an average height of around 0.15 metres. It is introduced and established in Great Britain. The species shows a strong preference for full sun, dry moisture conditions, and nutrient-poor, calcareous soils. It tolerates only low levels of disturbance. The flowering period extends from May to August.
