This herbaceous plant reaches a height of approximately 40 centimetres. Its broad leaves are borne on non-woody stems. The species favours sunny positions on fresh, nutrient-rich soils that are neutral to weakly acid and experience only light disturbance. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Flowering takes place from June through to September, providing both nectar and pollen for visiting insects.
