A herbaceous member of the Brassicaceae family, Sisymbrium altissimum is an introduced neophyte that has become established in Britain. It reaches a height of approximately 0.5 m and bears broad leaves. Flowering occurs from May to July. The species prefers full sun and dry, calcareous soils of moderate nutrient status, often occurring in places with low disturbance. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. It is introduced from parts of Europe and Africa.
