Solidago gigantea is a herbaceous, non-woody, broad-leaved plant reaching about 1.08 m in height. It grows in full sun on fresh, moderately moist, nutrient-rich soils and tolerates neutral to slightly acidic conditions. The species shows a preference for sites with low disturbance. In Great Britain it is an introduced plant that has become established and is considered invasive. The flowering period runs from August to October.
