As an archaeophyte wild plant, this species requires no cultivation. It will naturally colonise nutrient-rich, calcareous soil in semi-shaded, moist garden areas or wild corners where the ground is disturbed.
Veronica hederifolia is an archaeophyte established in Great Britain, belonging to the plantain family (Plantaginaceae). It is a terrestrial, non-woody, broad-leaved herbaceous plant that typically grows to around 16 cm in height. The species prefers semi-shaded conditions (light value 6) and moderately moist, fresh soils (moisture value 4). It is a strong nutrient indicator, thriving on calcareous, basic soils (reaction value 7, nutrients value 7) in moderately warm temperatures. The plant produces flowers from March to May. Its leaves have an average area of 260.68 mm², and the diaspore mass is relatively large at 3.74 mg. It is associated with arbuscular mycorrhiza.
