Zostera marina is a marine flowering plant (seagrass) in the family Seegrasgewächse. It is a herbaceous, non-woody perennial with broad, ribbon-like leaves and an aquatic growth habit. The leaves are typically evergreen, with a leaf area of about 3162 mm², and the plant reaches a height of approximately 55 cm. It is native in Great Britain, growing fully submerged in shallow coastal waters on wet, calcareous, and strongly saline substrates with moderate nutrient levels. It tolerates partial shade. Flowers are produced from May to September.
