Prefers full sun. Grows best in fresh, fertile, calcareous soils. Avoid saline or waterlogged sites. Not suited to frequently disturbed ground.
Ammi majus is a terrestrial, non-woody, broad-leaved herbaceous plant. In Britain it is introduced and established, having been first recorded around 1500. The species reaches a typical height of 0.5 m and bears relatively small leaves with a leaf area around 77 mm². Its tiny diaspores weigh about 0.55 mg. The plant thrives in full sun on fresh, calcareous and nutrient-rich soils, being notably warmth-loving and not tolerant of saline conditions. It forms arbuscular mycorrhizal associations. Disturbance tolerance is low.
