Cetonia aurata is a scarab beetle. Adults measure around 2.08 centimetres in body length and weigh approximately 0.51 grams. The dorsal surfaces of the head, pronotum and abdomen lack hairs, whereas the ventral abdomen bears a light covering of hairs; overall hairiness is low. On a colour lightness scale the beetle records a value of 112, indicating a pale tone. The wings are well developed, with a wing load of 3.96 and an aspect ratio of 3.01, consistent with strong flight. Other morphological features include an eye area of 0.959 mm², an antenna length of 2.888 mm, and mandible length of 1.304 mm with an aspect of 0.353. The body is rather rounded (roundness 0.676), with a width of 11.13 mm and height of 7.52 mm. Leg segments show typical proportions, with hind femora longer than mid and front femora. The species shows no sexual dimorphism in the measured traits. Active adults are recorded from April to July.
