Ips typographus is a bark beetle belonging to the weevil family Curculionidae. It has been recorded in Great Britain, but its establishment status remains uncertain. Adults reach a body length of about 4.85 mm and a mass of roughly 0.013 g. The wings are well developed, with a wing length of 8.77 mm, a wing area of 19.0 mm², and an aspect ratio of 3.35. The body is compact and rounded, showing a body roundness of 0.95, and exhibits no sexual dimorphism. The beetle is relatively lightly coloured, with a colour lightness value of 114.3. Antennae and mandibles are proportionally small, and the overall body hairiness is moderate.
