Scientific profile

Litargus connexus belongs to the family Mycetophagidae, the hairy fungus beetles. It is recorded in Great Britain, although its presence status is currently indeterminate. Adults are very small, with a mean body length of around 2.6 mm and a body mass of approximately 0.845 mg. The body is rather rounded (roundness 0.47) and light in colour (colour lightness ca. 110). The elytra measure about 1.68 mm long and 0.62 mm wide, while the membranous wings are relatively short and broad (wing length 2.68 mm, width 1.04 mm), giving a low wing aspect of 2.57. The antennae reach 0.66 mm, and the eyes are small, with an eye area of 0.018 mm². Dorsal body surfaces carry a modest coat of hairs, most pronounced on the abdomen dorsally (hairiness score 83.9). No sexual dimorphism was detected in the measured traits (score 0.0).
