Lepomis gibbosus is a member of the family Centrarchidae, the sunfishes. It is a neozoon in Europe and is included on the list of invasive alien species of Union concern. The German Red List categorises it as 'nb' (not endangered). In Great Britain, the species is introduced and has established populations.
