Adult Agrilus angustulus are approximately 5.25 mm long and 1.4 mm wide, giving the body a closely circular cross-section and an overall cylindrical appearance. The head is short (0.48 mm) but broad (1.17 mm), bearing eyes 0.74 mm in length and short antennae (1.19 mm). The pronotum is 0.86 mm long by 1.32 mm wide, and the elytra extend for 4.0 mm, concealing the abdomen. The wings are functional, with a low wing loading of 1.09 and a moderate aspect ratio. The cuticle presents a subdued mid-grey tone (lightness 128.64). The ventral abdomen is distinctively hairy, whereas the dorsal surfaces of the head, pronotum and abdomen are hairless. No sexual dimorphism in size or shape has been detected. The leg segments are of modest length, with the hind femora and tibiae both measuring around 0.96 mm.
