Prunus spinosa is a deciduous woody shrub or small tree native in Great Britain, typically attaining a height of about 2 metres. It bears broad leaves and produces flowers from April to May. The plant grows in full sun and prefers fresh, moderately moist soils with a neutral to slightly acid reaction; it is not salt tolerant. It is associated with habitats experiencing low disturbance. Average seed mass is 141 mg and leaf area is roughly 420 mm². The species is not regarded as threatened.
