Thanasimus formicarius

Scientific profile

A member of the family Cleridae, Thanasimus formicarius is a small beetle with a body mass of around 33 mg. Its head measures roughly 1.9 mm in width, and the elytra are about 5.2 mm long. The wings span roughly 7.6 mm in length with an area of 18.7 mm². The hind femora and tibiae are relatively elongate compared with the other leg segments. The body surface carries a variable coat of fine hairs; the dorsal abdomen is particularly well-covered, whereas the head and pronotum are less hairy. There is no evidence of sexual dimorphism among the measured traits.
