Diplocoelus fagi

Scientific profile

Diplocoelus fagi is a very small beetle, reaching a body length of approximately 3.05 mm and a mass of 0.78 mg. The body width is 1.298 mm and height 0.81 mm, giving it a slightly flattened profile. The wings have an area of 2.856 mm², a length of 3.397 mm and an aspect ratio of 2.573, resulting in a moderate wing loading of 0.273. The head is 0.732 mm wide and 0.486 mm long, with small eyes (eye area 0.034 mm²). The pronotum measures 1.122 mm in width and 0.664 mm in length, and the elytra are 2.26 mm long and 0.68 mm wide. The antennae are 0.708 mm long. Leg segments include relatively short femora and tibiae; for example, the mid femur is 0.527 mm long and the mid tibia 0.486 mm. The mandibles are 0.184 mm long with an aspect ratio of 0.402. Hairiness is pronounced overall (total hairiness 69.967), especially on the ventral abdomen (101.222) and dorsal abdomen (70.769), and less so on the head (57.971) and pronotum (49.908). There is no evidence of sexual dimorphism.
